  3. Dear Sysop :

  5.   This is the 19th release of The Verify Door to the public. Please report
  6. any problems or suggestions to Jim Lockhart (The author) at:

  17.   If you are running an HST modem, be SURE you set the parameter &S0 and
  18. write it to your NRAM using the &W command.  This sets the DSR override
  19. to the factory default.
  20.  
  21.   ALSO, if you are running TVD on a USR HST or a TELEBIT modem, please
  22. check your S38 register. It should be set to S38=0 or somewhere between
  23. 0 and 4 seconds.

  25.    QUICK SETUP:
  26.  
  27. >>>NOTE: If you are upgrading from v1.15 , v1.17, v1.18 or v1.19,  please
  28.    stop now and follow the directions contained in UPGRADE.DOC.
  29.  
  30.    If you are upgrading from v1.23 or v1.24, TCBVD125.EXE is a drop in
  31.    replacement for TCBVD123.EXE and TCBVD124.EXE. No other chages (except
  32.    your batch file) are needed.

  34.    If you are upgrading from v1.20, v1.21, or v1.22, TCBVD125.EXE is
  35.    a drop-in replacement for TCBVD120.EXE, TCBVD121.EXE and TCBVD122.EXE,
  36.    however you must at least update your TVD config file by running SETUP25
  37.    and save the changes. Before running the setup program, though be sure
  38.    to WRITE DOWN or print out you BBS name and TVD registration number as
  39.    they appear in the config file because you may have to put them back
  40.    in in something goes wrong!

  42.    If you are upgrading from a version previous to v1.15, back up your
  43.    TCBVVER file and read on:
  44.  
  45. 1. De-archive the new TVD files into any directory on your hard drive
  46.    and log into that directory. (Ideally you would want to de-archive
  47.    the door files to the directory from which you wish to run the door.)
  48.        
  49. 2. Run INSTALL.BAT or SETUP25
  50.    You might consider having a copy of the docs handy as there isn't
  51.    much on line help within the setup program.
  52.  
  53. 3. Run option #1 first to properly install the TVD files.
  54.  
  55. 4. Now run option #2 and make changes to any item that might be needed.
  56.    Pay special attention to any line in the config that contains a path
  57.    or user security level, especially the path to the log file you
  58.    intend to have the door use/create.
  59.  
  60. 5. Save the changes when you're happy with the configuration.
  61.  
  62. 6. Copy the file VERIFY to your \PCB directory. (You can re-name this
  63.    file to whatever filename suits you)
  64.  
  65. 7. Edit VERIFY (or whatever you re-named it to) to tailor it to your system.
  66.  
  67. 8. Set up an entry for VERIFY (or whatever you named it) in PCBSETUP.
  68.  
  69. 9. Test the door in local mode by logging in locally as a new user......
  70.    TVD will do everything except actually dial out if you log in
  71.    in local mode.

  74. WHAT TO DO IF TVD REPORTS AN ERROR
  75.  
  76.   Most errors during initial setup and testing and are caused by TVD not
  77. being able to find one or more of the files specified in the TCBV.CNF file.
  78. Check to be SURE that all path names in TCBV.CNF are fully correct (check
  79. the docs if you're not sure what format is being called for).

  82. WHAT TO DO IF YOU STILL CAN'T MAKE IT RUN!
  83.  
  84.   Please note any error codes reported if an error occurs. (Error codes are
  85. written to ERROR.LOG)  Telling what the error code(s) is (are) will make it
  86. a lot easier for me to help you quickly find the problem should one occur.

  88. After you have all the information gathered, then call Page Three BBS and
  89. leave a [C]omment to the sysop about the exact nature of the problem you are
  90. having with TVD including any error codes listed in ERROR.LOG and I'll be
  91. glad to get you up and running.

  93. * Some sysops call me and ask for all kinds of help in getting
  94. * TVD set up and running, then they don't register the door.
  95. * I think that's sorta rude to do,  so if you call me for help, please
  96. * have the courtesy to register your copy of TVD after the 30 day
  97. * evaluation period if you are satisfied with the way it runs on your system.
  98.  
  99.   If the door doesn't seem to want to call your users back, check the log file
  100. in the door or your caller log and see if there are some NO DIALTONE messages.
  101. If so, you may need to change your modems X parameter to X3 so that the modem
  102. does not return the NO DIALTONE result code to the door.
  103.   This door does NOT appear to work well with some UARTS such as a few found
  104. in internal modems. It has been running successfully on versions of the
  105. Intel 16550, 16450, 16451, 16551, 8250, 8250a and 8250b UARTs and most internal
  106. modems mapped to the same addresses as com1-8 on the AT bus.

  108.   TVD has been found to run great on USR, Telebit, Everex, Cardinal, Hayes,
  109. Ven-Tel, Hisland and other hayes-compatible modems.
  110.  
  111.   If you like the door and want me to keep writing future versions, please
  112. register your copy of TVD as mentioned in the documentation.
